Honest questions about Jesus, asked in Detroit.

Detroit has no shortage of religious history. The question is whether people who name Jesus follow Him when no microphone is on. Jesus calls disciples to take up the cross daily, love enemies, tell the truth, share with people in need, and carry hope from His resurrection into hard places.

The Detroit River belongs to a working international waterway, with shipping traffic and strong current. The city’s neighborhoods spread across a large footprint where a short map distance may still mean a difficult bus trip. Food access, vacant properties, high utility costs, and winter weather affect daily life. Detroit also has unusually strong block clubs, urban farms, mutual-aid habits, and families whose loyalty outlasted decades of bad headlines.

Detroit knows what it means for outsiders to tell an incomplete story. Corktown cranes and downtown investment are real. So are longtime blocks on the East and West sides where neighbors held things together when attention moved elsewhere. Southwest Detroit, the North End, Jefferson-Chalmers, and East English Village each have their own memory.

Followers of Jesus should listen long enough to learn it. We meet at small tables, read His words, share meals, baptize believers, and do useful work beside people who already love their neighborhoods. No collection. No religious show.
