Honest questions about Jesus, asked in Nashville.

Nashville knows Christian language, gospel music, and church brands. The harder question is whether our lives resemble Jesus on Tuesday: telling the truth, forgiving, welcoming strangers, serving people who cannot improve our status, and sharing the hope of His resurrection. That path is costly. It is also full of light.

Nashville is larger than the postcard downtown. Kurdish families have made the city home for decades; Nolensville Pike carries languages and food from around the world; historically Black North Nashville lives with the long effects of highway construction and displacement; Antioch keeps absorbing growth that outpaces infrastructure. Tourism and health care generate wealth, but rising housing costs and homelessness remain visible. Following Jesus here means learning names across those lines and staying after the photo opportunity ends.

Nashville can make almost anything look like a show. Broadway glows, cranes fill the skyline, and another songwriter arrives while a family in Antioch wonders whether rent will jump again. But following Jesus was never an audience experience.

It looks more like an open Bible at a kitchen table in Madison, a shared meal in Bordeaux, an early food-sorting shift on Great Circle Road, and a believer going into the water because Acts 2:38 became personal. Nobody performs. Nobody is paid. Nobody collects an offering.
