Houston Public Library lists bookable spaces by branch, and the rules differ by room. Some meeting rooms must remain free and open to the public. A library card may be required to reserve. Houston distance is part of the study plan. A table in Alief is not nearby for somebody finishing a shift in Northside. Start in one part of the city, at a time the actual people can keep. Love that crosses a real divide
Jesus tells His followers to love enemies and pray for persecutors. Name the teaching plainly. Then ask what love can do without hiding abuse or removing necessary boundaries.
Put it into practice: Refuse one act of retaliation. If contact is safe, do one good thing for somebody outside your usual Houston circle.

Jesus at the wrong table
Notice whom Jesus eats with and who objects. Ask which people are quietly excluded from Christian tables because of language, work, immigration story, poverty, or reputation.
Put it into practice: Invite somebody outside your normal circle to breakfast after a night shift or to dinner near their own neighborhood. Listen longer than you speak.

Mercy after a hard week
Read Jesus' teaching on forgiveness in context. Forgiveness releases vengeance. It does not require renewed access for an unsafe person or silence about harm.
Put it into practice: Give up one planned act of payback. Where somebody is at risk, help them tell the truth and find safety.

A disciple's response and work
Jesus sends disciples to make disciples, baptize, and teach obedience. Peter tells believers to repent and be baptized in Jesus Christ's name for forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Put it into practice: If someone is ready, help make a safe baptism plan. If not, choose one command of Jesus the whole table will practice before meeting again.
Following Jesus in Houston means knowing the city
Houston is enormous, international, and built around long drives. Flood recovery can last months after the news crews leave, while hospital families, refinery workers, refugees, and older neighbors face ordinary weeks that call for patient friendship. Third Ward, Gulfton, Alief, and Northside do not share one identical story. Keep gatherings close to the people attending, learn local history from residents, and never use a neighborhood as scenery for ministry.

How to start a study in your Houston living room
Invite two people
A neighbor, a coworker, family. Start with the people you have. The first believers devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, meals, and prayer, and they met in homes (Acts 2:42,46).
Open the Gospel of Matthew

Eat together
The first church broke bread in their homes "with glad and sincere hearts" (Acts 2:46). Pizza counts. This matters more than it sounds like it does.
