How to become a Christian in Corpus Christi: the Acts 2 way.

When a crowd in Jerusalem asked "what shall we do?", Peter gave a four-part answer that still stands: believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; repent; be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:36-38). You can do all of that in Corpus Christi this week. No class, no membership, no cost.

What Peter actually said

The first time anyone ever asked "how do I become a Christian?" was about fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, in Acts chapter 2. Peter had just told a Jerusalem crowd that Jesus, the man they crucified, is both Lord and Christ. The text says they were "cut to the heart" and asked what to do. Here's the answer, straight from the source:

"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Acts 2:38

Believe

That Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. That's how Peter confessed Him (Matthew 16:16) and how John said we come to life in His name (John 20:31). This is a settled conviction about who Jesus is, not a vague spiritual feeling.

Repent

Turn around. Repentance means changing direction, away from your old life and toward God. It is deeper than feeling bad about yourself, and you can make that decision anywhere in Corpus Christi.

Be baptized

Full immersion in water, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins. In the Bible people were baptized the same day they believed, with no waiting period or committee (Acts 8:36-38). Any believer can baptize you.

Receive the Holy Spirit

"The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off" (Acts 2:39). God doesn't leave you to figure the rest out alone.

Following Jesus in Corpus Christi

A room is useful only when people can return

Corpus Christi Public Libraries currently list nine meeting or conference rooms at five locations. La Retama has an auditorium, conference room, and board room. McDonald, Garcia, Harte, and Hopkins also list rooms of different sizes. That sounds simple until the policy is read. The adult reserving the room needs a library card in good standing. The gathering must be free and open to the public, applications are due at least seven business days ahead, and rooms are unavailable in June and July. Confirm every detail with the chosen branch.

For a smaller private conversation, the library also says study rooms are available first come, first served at La Retama, McDonald, Hopkins, and Neyland for periods up to two hours. Ask staff whether the expected conversation fits the room rules. A home remains the easiest place to share a meal, pray, and discuss personal questions.

Corpus Christi is not one short trip

Flour Bluff, Calallen, Molina, Hillcrest, the Southside, and the bayfront do not share one schedule or travel pattern. Ask where each person will be coming from at the meeting hour. A breakfast after a night shift may last longer than an evening meeting that asks a tired worker to cross the city twice.

Cole Park sits along Corpus Christi Bay at 1900 Ocean Drive. City park rules currently list ordinary park hours as 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., while Cole Park Pier remains open around the clock. Park space can work in mild weather, but it is not private and the city may have events or facility rules that affect a gathering. Check current conditions and posted notices.

Build something that survives the first meeting

Jesus Saves Cities is an independent Christian resource, not a Corpus Christi congregation. We do not promise a weekly group that has not formed. Contact us with the part of town you can reach and the time you can actually keep. An online group can help people begin while nearby connections develop.

The goal is not a crowded launch. It is a few people reading Jesus' words, sharing meals, praying, and learning to carry one another's burdens. If somebody misses a week, check on the person before checking the attendance count.

Corpus Christi is spread around the bay, so a table that works for somebody near La Retama may be a poor fit for a friend in Flour Bluff or Calallen. Begin with the people you actually know and the hours they can keep. Two people reading Matthew at a kitchen table can be a more faithful beginning than a citywide event nobody can return to.

Jesus said His followers would be known by their love for one another (John 13:34-35). Here that love may mean breakfast with a night-shift worker, waiting through an appointment with a nervous neighbor, helping a new family understand a school meeting, or returning after a hard week when the first wave of help is gone. Study should lead into that kind of life.

People in Corpus Christi bring questions shaped by Molina, Hillcrest, new arrivals, old wounds, work, family, and the cost of staying. We answer from the words of Jesus and the apostles. Where Scripture does not settle a detail, we will say so.

Where to get baptized in Corpus Christi

In Corpus Christi, the simplest baptism is often a permitted private pool or a suitable tub. Public facilities have their own schedules, fees, supervision, and group-use rules, so call first and receive clear approval. Do not improvise in fountains, restricted water, shipping channels, or unsafe current.

A private or apartment pool

Get clear owner or management permission. Follow guest, occupancy, access, and safety rules.

City of Corpus Christi pools

Corpus Christi

Contact the specific facility first. Ask for explicit permission, an available time, admission or rental cost, supervision, and group rules.

A suitable bathtub

At home

A tub can allow careful full immersion year-round. Plan nonslip footing, safe entry and exit, and enough assistance.

A permitted private indoor pool

Corpus Christi metro

Arrange access directly with the operator and confirm that baptism is allowed. Never assume open-swim admission includes group ceremonies.
