How to become a Christian in Charlotte — the Acts 2 way.
When a crowd in Jerusalem asked "what shall we do?", Peter gave a four-part answer that still stands: believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; repent; be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:36-38). You can do all of that in Charlotte this week. No class, no membership, no cost.
What Peter actually said
The first time anyone ever asked "how do I become a Christian?" was about fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead, in Acts chapter 2. Peter had just told a Jerusalem crowd that Jesus — the man they crucified — is both Lord and Christ. The text says they were "cut to the heart" and asked what to do. Here's the answer, straight from the source:
"Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Believe
That Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. That's how Peter confessed Him (Matthew 16:16) and how John said we come to life in His name (John 20:31). Not a vague spiritual feeling — a settled conviction about who Jesus is.
Repent
Turn around. Not "feel bad about yourself" — change direction, away from your old life and toward God. It's a decision, and you can make it anywhere in Charlotte, today.
Be baptized
Full immersion in water, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins. In the Bible people were baptized the same day they believed — no waiting period, no committee (Acts 8:36-38). Any believer can baptize you.
Receive the Holy Spirit
"The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off" (Acts 2:39). God doesn't leave you to figure the rest out alone.
Following Jesus in Charlotte
Banking shaped Charlotte’s skyline, while roads and development reshaped its neighborhoods. The Blue Line links UNC Charlotte, NoDa, Uptown, and South End, but many trips still require a car or a long bus ride. East Charlotte is home to families from across Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. West Charlotte carries the effects of highways, airport expansion, and displacement. Lake Norman and Lake Wylie define the region geographically, yet public swimming is limited to designated sites with rules, hours, and seasonal conditions.
Charlotte grows in rings. Towers rise in Uptown, apartments follow the light rail through South End and NoDa, and another subdivision appears near the edge of Mecklenburg County. Meanwhile, west-side families, east Charlotte newcomers, and neighbors sleeping near Uptown may experience entirely different versions of the same city.
A life with Jesus has to cross those versions. It can begin around a kitchen table off Central Avenue or on a porch in West Charlotte. Read what He said. Share supper. Help someone move, serve beside a neighbor, baptize a believer, then come back next week. No collection plate appears.
Charlotte knows polished Christianity. The harder question comes Monday morning: do we forgive, welcome the stranger, carry another person’s burden, and speak about the hope of Jesus without turning people into projects? Jesus called disciples to take up the cross daily (Luke 9:23). His resurrection makes that costly life hopeful, and His love gives it shape.
Where to get baptized in Charlotte
Baptism is full immersion chosen by a believer (Acts 2:38). Mecklenburg County operates indoor and outdoor pools, and Ramsey Creek Beach has a guarded seasonal swim area on Lake Norman. Facility admission does not automatically approve a group baptism. Contact staff first about permission, schedules, fees, and supervision. At Ramsey Creek, swimming outside the marked beach area is prohibited. A private pool or safe tub with permission is often the cleanest plan.

How do I become a Christian?
Believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; repent; be baptized for the forgiveness of sins; and receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:36-38).
Does asking Jesus into my heart save me?
That is not the answer Peter gave in Acts 2. He told people to repent and be baptized. Prayer matters in Christian life, but it does not replace the response Jesus and the apostles taught.
Can I get baptized at Lake Norman?
Ramsey Creek Beach has a designated seasonal swim area, but you must ask the county first and follow fees, capacity limits, marked boundaries, and lifeguard directions. Do not enter elsewhere assuming public access means swimming is permitted.
Who can baptize me?
Any follower of Jesus can baptize. No clergy title, church building, waiting period, or fee is required.
