Bring the pattern into the light

Name the behavior clearly. Notice when, where, and after what feeling it usually happens. Secrecy gives a pattern room to grow. James 5:16 tells believers to confess sins to one another and pray for one another.

Repentance includes a change of direction. Put distance between yourself and easy access. Change a schedule, block a contact, move a device, avoid the place, or ask someone to hold what you cannot safely control. If another person was harmed, seek wise help to stop the harm and make repair without pressuring them to forgive or reconnect.

Practice the life of Jesus

Quitting a behavior leaves a space. Fill it with the opposite action. Replace deception with a prompt truth. Replace contempt with a specific act of honor. Replace isolation with a call to a trustworthy person. Jesus calls disciples to take up the cross daily (Luke 9:23); daily means you keep choosing after a hard day.

Compulsion, addiction, trauma, or a mental-health condition may require qualified treatment. Seeking professional help can be part of telling the truth and protecting people.
