Follow Jesus in Istanbul

To follow Jesus in Istanbul, listen to His words and respond as Acts 2 teaches: believe Jesus is the Christ and Son of God, repent, be baptized for forgiveness, receive the Holy Spirit, and continue in a life shaped by Him.

In Istanbul, choosing the wrong side of the Bosphorus can turn a simple gathering into hours of travel. A table in Kadıköy and a table in Fatih may need to become two tables. Begin quietly, protect each person's freedom and privacy, and use a language everyone can understand.

This is an independent Christian resource. It does not operate an Istanbul church or local branch.

Meet with consent and care

Municipal reports document libraries across Istanbul, but current access and group rules must be confirmed directly. A host-approved home may offer clearer permission. Keep the group small enough for trust and honest conversation.

İBB public-library network

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality report lists public libraries across districts, including Atatürk Library and district branches.

Check first: Confirm current hours and whether a spoken group is allowed at the exact branch.

A host-approved home table

Meeting on the same side of the Bosphorus as most attendees can prevent a simple evening from becoming a long commute.

Check first: The host and everyone present should freely agree to the gathering.

Baptism in Istanbul

Municipal sports reports list pools, but use is governed by each facility. Obtain written baptism permission or use private water. Do not improvise in the Bosphorus. Currents, vessel traffic, cold, and difficult exits make it unsafe.

Spor İstanbul aquatic facilities

The municipal sports report lists swimming facilities in several Istanbul districts.

Permission and safety: Facility use does not authorize baptism. Ask the exact operator and receive written approval.

A permitted private pool or suitable tub

Private water is safer than improvising in the Bosphorus and easier to supervise.

Permission and safety: Use safe immersion, stable footing, clear consent, and sober adult supervision.

Love someone without making a display

Let help protect dignity and privacy. Ask what the person needs, serve directly with one or two trusted followers of Jesus, and keep returning.

1

Carry groceries and share tea with an older neighbor whose family lives far away.

2

Meet a new resident at a ferry or Metro interchange and practice the route to work together.

3

Cook a meal with a family caring for someone in hospital and cover one practical errand.

4

Help a child with language or schoolwork while a parent remains present and involved.

5

Invite a service worker to a meal that fits a late shift rather than your preferred time.

6

Listen to a person facing family pressure, guard their confidence, and help with the next safe step they choose.

Following Jesus with courage and gentleness

Jesus calls His followers to daily faithfulness, costly love, forgiveness, truth, and care for outsiders. Courage does not require recklessness. His death shows God's love, and His resurrection gives hope that can remain steady under pressure.
